FarmTech is revolutionizing agriculture by integrating technology with traditional farming practices. The Catalyst interacted with Dr. Prachi Srivastava, Associate Professor, Amity University Lucknow to know more about her recent copyrighted AI-based Tool, Bhoomitra for small-scale farmers. Hazardous farming practices are leading to health issues and disturbing ecosystem, making it essential to adopt ethical farming methods. Bhoomitra is a conscious effort to It’s the future of farming, where innovation meets sustainability.
Please share details about your new copyright and explain how you believe it will be a game-changer for small-scale farmers?
Bhoomitra is a copyrighted AI-based crop and fertilizer recommendation system, designed specifically for small-scale farmers. By integrating advanced machine learning techniques, the model optimizes input usage, improving crop yields and profitability. In addition to addressing challenges such as inefficiency in resource use and lack of access to expert advice, this system provides farmers with the ability to make informed decisions based on data. As a result of the anticipated cost savings of INR 50,000-100,000 per farmer, coupled with improved yields, precision farming for smallholders has the potential to revolutionize agriculture, thereby making it a true game-changer.
What are the key features and functions of the AI tool developed for this project?
With its AI-based system it can analyze a diverse datasets, including soil properties (e.g., pH, nutrient levels), weather patterns (e.g., rainfall, temperature), crop types, and fertilizer attributes (e.g., nutrient composition), etc. By integrating this information, it is able to make recommendations regarding the best crop choices and fertilizers, resulting in improved yields and a reduction in costs.
Can this tool incorporate real-time data, such as current weather conditions, to provide dynamic recommendations?
Yes, Bhoomitra is designed to incorporate real-time data. In the future, integration with IoT devices and APIs for weather updates will enable dynamic and precise recommendations based on current conditions. These advancements will help farmers make more informed decisions, optimize resource utilization, and reduce costs. Additionally, real-time insights will empower small-scale farmers to adapt quickly to changing environmental factors, improving crop yields and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices.
The experts who supported Dr. Prachi in developing Bhoomitra.
Please highlight the technology utilized in database management and the AI model.
Based on machine learning techniques, Bhoomitra AI is trained with 2,200 crop datasets and 100 fertilizer datasets. Its database management uses a scalable cloud infrastructure to ensure secure and efficient data storage. In order to test their recommendation accuracy, rigorous testing has been conducted on test datasets, and future expansions will incorporate continuous data updates and API integration.
Is the tool available as a mobile app, web app, or both? What are the minimum tech requirements to use it?
At present, Bhoomitra can be accessed through an intuitive web application designed to work on basic devices with access to the internet. A mobile application is being developed in order to further improve accessibility. With the platform, simplicity and minimal technical barriers are prioritized, as well as support for multiple languages to address regional diversity and literacy levels.
How often will the AI tool be updated to incorporate new agricultural research and advancements in fertilizers?
Regular updates will be made to the tool to reflect the latest developments in agricultural research and fertilizer development. A continuous learning process will be achieved through the periodic expansion of datasets, the integration of IoT, and the updating of APIs, ensuring that Bhoomitra remains relevant and effective for its users.
Please share some input regarding extension of this project – Bhoomitra.
Our future plans include developing a mobile app, incorporating advanced features such as drone-based crop monitoring and pest management, and expanding the datasets to cover regional crop varieties. To have Bhoomitra implemented on a larger scale, we also intend to collaborate with agricultural extension services and other research laboratories.
